Aviation Classics LTD. is located 13 miles north of downtown Reno, Nevada at Reno-Stead Field (4SD). In 1979, the company began as a Warbird restoration and maintenance shop, and later successfully competed for the opportunity to open a Fixed Base Operation--the result is a full service "Exxon-Mobil" FBO and FAA approved Maintenance and Avionics Repair Station NA3R703L, servicing small single engine and twin engine private aircraft, up to the 12,500 pound class aircraft in the main facility, Hangar 1. In Hangar 2, ACL continues the restoration and maintenance of vintage jet Warbird aircraft, specializing in former Soviet Jets. ACL does not provide any pilot training. Three years ago, the new owner of Aviation Classics Ltd., Alby Redick, bought out the other family members and is working hard at reorganizing the facility, modernizing and upgrading equipment, implementing employee uniforms, as well as establishing new maintenance procedures and guidelines. The facility is now fully computerized, including wireless terminals and printers on the shop floors, computerized maintenance manuals, complete ATP microfiche library, and DSL internet access at each station. Safety manuals have been written and adopted, employee manuals established and implemented, and monthly safety meetings are now conducted. Additionally, Nevada SCATS (Safety Consultation and Training Section) was brought onsite and assisted the company in eliminating safety hazards, outlining the purchase of required safety equipment, as well as establishing new safety practices. Employees have recently completed Forklift and Fire Extinguisher training. As a result of rising Workers Comp and Aviation Liability Insurance costs, ACL established as company policy, that employees are not allowed under any circumstances, to fly in aircraft while on company time. In addition to the FAA Approved Repair Station NA3R703L, for Avionics Installation and Repair, and Aircraft Maintenance, and the ongoing Jet Warbird Restoration and Maintenance, ACL also offers Soviet Aircraft Appraisals, Exxon-Mobil Jet-A and Avgas Fuel Sales, Aircraft Tiedown, a Self-Serve 100LL Fuel Island, Aircraft Parts Department and Pilot Supplies Sales, and Fixed Base Operation (FBO) Services.
